2014 Color of the Year

Pantone selects a color of the year. The 2014 selection is Radiant Orchid. I think this color just screams “Springtime!”

According to their website, “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.”

The rosy undertones of Radiant Orchid reflect on the skin with a healthy glow. It was wildly popular in Spring 2014 fashion shows.

Blending cool and warm undertones, this particular hue is flattering to many hair, eye and skin tones. Complimentary shades include lavender, purple and pink while red provides a strong contrast.

Radiant Orchid is a wonderful choice to go with neutrals, especially shades of gray and tan. You can create a trendy feel to your home decor by adding accents in this unique hue through pillows, a floral arrangement, throws, or a piece of art.

About the PANTONE Color of the Year
“The color of the year selection requires careful consideration and, to arrive at the selection, Pantone combs the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.”

What do you think of the color? Will you incorporate it into your home or wardrobe this year?
