2020, A Year to Believe

When I chose the word “Believe” as my word for 2020, little did I know what the year would bring or how much I would need to lean on and into that word.

Beyond the craziness that is COVID-19, we lost my mom and several people we were close to. Due to  life happening and grief’s relentless pursuit, I didn’t write as many books as I had planned. The challenges we faced and endured left me unsettled and struggling.

But through it all, Captain Cavedweller reminded me to believe. Believe in my faith. Believe in hope. Believe in myself. Believe in the goodness of others. Believe in a better tomorrow. Just believe.

So I did. I’ll admit, some days it was hard, so hard, to believe everything would find when nothing in my world seemed right.

Yet, here we are, so grateful for the blessings we received this year. So thankful for our loved ones. So filled with gratitude for the opportunities around us, and those before us as we bid goodbye to a difficult year and believe in the hope of better, happier, more beautiful days ahead.

As 2020 comes to an end, I wish for you joy, health, and love.

  1. I’m curious on how you chose your word? I was thinking about choosing one for 2021, but am trying to figure out the best way to go about doing that.

    1. Hi Michelle,

I usually think about what I want to focus on in the coming year, what I want to intentionally improve – and that leads me to my word. For 2021, I want to be more grateful and thankful – so my word is going to be “Thankful.”
