Captain Cavedweller and I were on vacation last week.
We spent several hours in the car, driving to our destination. The drive was beautiful and I found the further we drove from home, the more relaxed I let myself be.
The million thoughts that normally chase each other around in my head began to still and I felt a peacefulness settle over me.
Maybe it had something to do with the scenery.
Maybe it had something to do with being away from that which is familiar.
Maybe it had to do with having Captain Cavedweller all to myself for a week.
But I suddenly found myself thinking of ideas for books.
New ideas, fun ideas – evern a scary, mystery idea. Nine new ideas I can’t wait to get started turning into stories!
As we basked in the sunshine and our ability to take each day without a sense of urgency to move on to the next thing, I felt like I could think.
And breathe.
And just be.
If you’re struggling to write, trying to come up with a story idea, or feel like your completely frazzled, I highly recommend giving yourself a new perspective.
Take a vacation.
Go somewhere for an overnight getaway.
At the very least, take a drive out somewhere you can see the sky and take in huge gulps of fresh air.
It will do you, and your writing a world of good.
