He glanced behind her, wondering if this woman were a daughter of the man he sought to meet. He might have thought she was a secretary, except everything about her practically shouted money and class.

She moved forward, hand extended, and shook his hand with a firm grasp. It was then he realized just how tall she really was. Sam was on the upward side of six feet. In the heels she wore, he could look her straight in the eye.

The woman released his hand and moved around the desk, pulling out the big rolling chair. “Mr. Bishop. Please, be seated.”

Finally, his brain kicked into gear, and he realized there was no man in charge of the Hudson Estate Corporation. A story about a scandal that ended in three deaths jiggled loose in his brain. The family involved had been named Hudson. If what he recalled were true, this had to be the surviving daughter.

Sam waited until she took a seat to settle onto the comfortable leather chair. “Miss Hudson?” he asked. “V.E. Hudson?”

“Yes. Vienna Elizabeth Hudson. I find when dealing with traditional men in business, they react better when they think the person handling the Hudson Estate Corporation is a man.”

Sam almost blurted how ridiculous it was, particularly when she was a breathtakingly beautiful woman, but managed to hold his tongue.

However, she’d been a sight to see in the pasture, windblown and furious at him for trespassing. This polished, professional version of her was almost as appealing, with her smoothly styled hair, impeccable attire that showcased a fine figure, and an air of slight impatience that made him think she wouldn’t tolerate any nonsense. The sun streaming in the windows created a fiery halo around her head that made Sam want to grin.
