The RT Booklovers Convention is this week, May 15-20 in Reno at the Peppermill Resort. I can hardly wait for the fun to begin.
Today, you’ll find me at the Indie Soiree.
Indie Soiree Authors (1)
This is the first time for the Soiree, but I’m so looking forward to the event, especially since Kit Morgan will be there, too!  The participating authors will be wearing scarves and carrying bags full of goodies to pass out!
Z RT costume.jpg
The Garters and Gold Dust  historical mixer is Wednesday. This pile of stuff  pictured above I attempted to turn into a costume. The hat looks good. The shirtwaist is passable. The dress was a mess so I went back to the drawing board and hope what I came up with works! The first 300 in the door will get some awesome giveaways (including my special handmade gift!), and the chance to enter a drawing for four amazing bags full of goodies!
The awards ceremony is Friday evening with a reception immediately following.
Garden of Her Heart was chosen as the 2017 RT Review Source winner. I’m so incredibly thankful for this amazing honor (and nervous, definitely nervous about accepting the award!). Hope to see you there! I could use some friendly faces in the crowd.
Oh, and don’t miss the Giant Book Fair on Saturday. The Book Fair Only ticket is just $10 or FREE if you show a library card.
Here are links to booklets where you can check out or more details:

Joy is…

a great rodeo

BB f1

Captain Cavedweller and I spent the weekend at the Pendleton Round-Up.  It’s something we look forward to attending all year.  I have a lot of fun just snapping photos during the rodeo, so I’m sharing some of my favorites with you today.

Swan Lake starts to play in my head when I look at this photo.

BB f17 2

Liked the colors in this one… of his shirt, boots and the horse.

Eye-catching colors…

And the dust softening the image.

A Indian Relay

The Indian Relay Race hearkens back to the early days of the Round-Up and is still an action-packed event. Teams race around the big track to win the title of this event. Each rider switches horses three times. And some of these horses act is though they’ve barely ever seen humans let alone been ridden before. Oh, and did I mention they ride bareback? At Saturday’s championship race, one of the horses got away and started racing in the opposite direction around the track. Made for some exciting moments for the spectators as well as the racers.

calf roper 1

This is my favorite of all the calf roping photos I took. I love the look on his face and the way the rope is floating above the calf.

bronc S2

Saddle Bronc is probably my favorite event.

Bronc F17 2

Why, you ask?

Bronc s1

There’s the fact The Christmas Cowboy hero is a saddle bronc rider and it’s what started me out on the Rodeo Romance series of my books.

Also, these guys ride with a certain grace and panache…

Cort 2

And we love cheering for this guy – Cort Scheer. I met his sweet mama and sister years ago in Las Vegas and enjoy staying in touch with them.

dismount in crowd

This is one of my favorite photos from the rodeo this year. The rider made his eight second ride (which took him into the crowd of cowboys watching on the grass). He dismounted and landed on his feet right there to receive a bunch of hearty slaps on the back from his peers while the horse caused a bunch of last-minute scrambling. (Note the one cowboy who’s got a death grip on the back of a photographer’s vest in the lower left corner). Oh, and Cort is the one laughing and cheering right by the horse. So fun!

B pickup men

I don’t think these guys get enough credit for what they do, but the Pickup men are awesome.

bulldogger 1

I didn’t get a lot of fabulous Bulldogging photos, but I liked this one because you see so much action in it.

bullriderF17 1

This bull has a rather devilish look to him. I don’t think the tongue out and flying snot is helping any.

bullrider F17 2

Kickin’ up dust…

bull 1

It’s challenging for me to get good bull riding shots because the bulls stay so close to the chutes.

a bullfighters.jpg

The bull fighters did a fantastic job at the rodeo. Dusty Tuckness is a crowd favorite and Tim  O’Connor was fabulous, too.

clown 1

If any of you read Barreling Through Christmas, above is a barrel and the rodeo clown just happens to be inside it at this particular moment.

Enjoy the photos today? If so, I’ll share some of the parade and a few “blooper” photos tomorrow!

Home of Her Heart

All he needed was a bride. . .

Who said anything about falling in love?

Orphaned at birth and a loner all his life, the last thing Sergeant Klayne Campbell needs is for feisty Delaney Danvers to entangle his thoughts. Bravely volunteering for a top-secret mission almost certain to get him killed, Klayne can’t bear the thought of dying utterly alone. All he wants is to face death knowing his life meant something to at least one person. Offering Delaney a marriage of convenience, he plans to leave behind a war bride as his beneficiary. After just one night as her husband, Klayne realizes he’ll do anything to survive and return to her.

The moment she met handsome Sergeant Campbell at a holiday party, Delaney’s whole world shifted off kilter. HoHH Meme 4

His breath blew across her neck as he placed a heated kiss to the pulse rapidly pounding in her throat. He lifted his head and the sparks in his eyes ignited into liquid fire. Intrigued, uncertain, and longing for something she couldn’t explain and didn’t fully understand, she couldn’t tear her gaze away from his.

A sound of tortured misery escaped his throat on a low groan. “Delaney, you need to step away and show me to the door, right now. If you don’t, if you wait one more minute, I won’t be able to leave. Do you understand what I’m telling you, sweetheart? If you want me to leave, now is the time to tell me.” He started to move away but she wouldn’t let him, clasping her arms around his waist and holding on tight.

He held his arms out to his sides, not touching her. Even so, she felt a tremor pass through him as he fought to hold onto his control.

“Delaney Marie, if you don’t turn me loose, I won’t be held responsible for my actions. I know I promised you a marriage in name only, but you can only push a man so far before he lands beyond the edge of reason.”

“I plan to hold you responsible for your actions, Klayne.” She gave him a smirk as her hazel eyes darkened. “Fully and completely responsible…

Every year I pick one word as my theme (if you will).

Last year, I chose gratitude. As many of you know, I did a 52-week gratitude challenge. Except I got so busy the last two months of the year, completing the challenge became a sprint at the finish line, but I did it.

This year, I’ve decided to choose the word grace.

If you look it up in the dictionary, grace has a variety of meanings and I plan to explore all of them in 2016.

For today though, I wanted to share some thoughts about accepting gifts with grace.

There is someone in our family who is so, so hard to buy for. They act like they hate every gift they receive (not just from us, everyone gets the same reaction). This person complains the gift is a waste of money, that they didn’t need it, etc. It makes the gift-giver feel bad and can’t be fun for the person receiving the gift, either.

When we accept gifts with graciousness and gratitude, it’s a win for everyone.

I don’t know about you, but I love giving and receiving presents. What if you could unwrap a special gift every single day?

Oh, I don’t mean a physical gift that comes in shiny paper with a fancy bow. I’m thinking more along the lines of gifts that feed your soul and warm your heart.

Here’s some ideas:

  • The gift of believing in yourself
  • The gift of allowing yourself to dream
  • The gift of giving yourself grace (mercy, forgiveness)
  • The gift of laughter
  • The gift of a smile (seriously, stand in front of the mirror and give yourself a sincere smile!)
  • The gift of hope
  • The gift of patience
  • The gift of love

Why not chose one special gift each day and unwrap it, cherish it, be grateful for it? Give it a try and see if it doesn’t add a beautiful sparkle to your day.

Happy New Year! May it be one full of joy, health, happiness, laughter and much love.
