Each year I choose a single word as a theme, if you will, that will teach my valuable lessons and guide me through the next 365 days.
Last year, I selected the word “grace” and I have truly learned a lot about grace – especially my continuing need to extend it to others and myself.
Usually, I start mulling over what word I want to choose around the middle of November. One will eventually stand out from the options.
But it was way back in early autumn when I heard someone at church mention a verse in Nehemiah (8:10).
For the joy of the Lord is your strength.
I don’t know what it was about hearing that verse that day, but the word “joy” just jumped out at me and I knew at that moment it would be my theme for 2017.
Joy.
Such a tiny, simple word, but packed full of meaning and wonder, hope and strength.
I invite you to come along each Monday as I share the lessons in joy I hope to learn this year.
Do any of you choose a word theme for the year? If so, I’d love to know what word you’ve selected.
Happy New Year to you all!
