Let ‘Er Buck

Let’ Er Buck statue outside the Pendleton Round-Up grounds

I promise today will be my last post (for a while) about the Pendleton Round-Up.

Just wanted to share a few photos from the rodeo.

As you walk up to the Round-Up grounds, you can’t miss this great statue outside where it really sets the mood for the afternoon’s fun.

The rodeo features all your standard events, plus a few exciting ones like the Indian Relay Race. The arena is somewhat unique in that the center is grass.
Next to the bull riding, I love watching both the bareback and saddle bronc riding. It must be the thrill of anticipating if the rider will make it the eight seconds or be tossed like a rag-doll to the ground.
Ride ’em, cowboy!
Yeehaw!
This is my favorite of the bronc photos. Love the dun as well as his position when I snapped the photo.
Apparently I got so involved in watching the bull riders I forgot to take photos. Notice the temporary fence to keep the bulls contained.
These cowboys watching from the sidelines, casually reclined on the grass, can move like their Wranglers are on fire when a bull breaks through the fence and tries to make a run for it.
Captain Cavedweller felt sorry for the pick up men, dressed as they were in woolly chaps. The temp was over 90 that day and they had to be roasting – but they did a fantastic job despite the heat.
Overall, the Round-Up was a lot of fun and gave me some great ideas for future stories. How could you not be inspired by so many fine cowboy… hats. Next year, I’m definitely taking my telephoto lens!
