Months ago, Captain Cavedweller and I started planning a vacation for the first week of December. We tried to decide what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go.
Coming across an amazing price on flight and hotel packages to Las Vegas, we quickly decided that would be a great place to escape for a few days. Knowing we’d be in town the opening night of the National Finals Rodeo, I tracked down two tickets and looked forward to the event with great anticipation.
We began the day by attending two of the three Cowboy Christmas shows that are held in conjunction with the rodeo. We had so much fun at these, we could hardly stand it. Even CC was enjoying all the vendor booths. They had everything from antique guns and old-west attire to boots, home decor and candy. The tasty barbecue we had for lunch was pretty awesome, too!
Finally, it was time to head to the rodeo. Although the traffic was insane and the place was packed, it was absolutely amazing. From the laser light show that ran before the event to the fireworks that set it off, it was a first-class event. We got to hear Taylor Hicks sing the national anthem and watch the best of the best compete in the first go-round of the rodeo.
We also got to see JJ Harrison, the rodeo clown, who happens to live in our community, do his thing.
The rodeo – the whole day – was a lot of fun for both us. And you couldn’t mistake where you were at. There was a sea of cowboy hats and Wranglers… lots and lots of Wranglers!
If you are looking for a great event that will keep you on the edge of your seat, think about catching the rodeo next year. I highly recommend it.
So far, I’ve gotten several book ideas, not to mention thoughts for characters from the event!
All those Wranglers definitely generated some inspiration!
