Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls is one of those amazingly wonderful books that every child should read.
Seriously.
I think I was probably in the fifth grade when I read this book and absolutely loved it. It’s the story of a 14-year-old boy and the summer he spent with monkeys escaped from the circus. He learned a lot about monkeys and about life in general that summer.
If you are trying to get your kids to continue their reading through the summer months, have them read this. It’s engaging, fun, interesting and will, quite possibly, make them think and explore their hearts and minds.
