Every year I pick one word as my theme (if you will).

Last year, I chose gratitude. As many of you know, I did a 52-week gratitude challenge. Except I got so busy the last two months of the year, completing the challenge became a sprint at the finish line, but I did it.

This year, I’ve decided to choose the word grace.

If you look it up in the dictionary, grace has a variety of meanings and I plan to explore all of them in 2016.

For today though, I wanted to share some thoughts about accepting gifts with grace.

There is someone in our family who is so, so hard to buy for. They act like they hate every gift they receive (not just from us, everyone gets the same reaction). This person complains the gift is a waste of money, that they didn’t need it, etc. It makes the gift-giver feel bad and can’t be fun for the person receiving the gift, either.

When we accept gifts with graciousness and gratitude, it’s a win for everyone.

I don’t know about you, but I love giving and receiving presents. What if you could unwrap a special gift every single day?

Oh, I don’t mean a physical gift that comes in shiny paper with a fancy bow. I’m thinking more along the lines of gifts that feed your soul and warm your heart.

Here’s some ideas:

  • The gift of believing in yourself
  • The gift of allowing yourself to dream
  • The gift of giving yourself grace (mercy, forgiveness)
  • The gift of laughter
  • The gift of a smile (seriously, stand in front of the mirror and give yourself a sincere smile!)
  • The gift of hope
  • The gift of patience
  • The gift of love

Why not chose one special gift each day and unwrap it, cherish it, be grateful for it? Give it a try and see if it doesn’t add a beautiful sparkle to your day.

Happy New Year! May it be one full of joy, health, happiness, laughter and much love.

“Dreamin’ in color but livin’ in black and white…”

That’s a line from a song and for whatever reason, that line has been resonating both in my head and heart recently.

How many of us spend our entire lives living in black and white?

Maybe we stay in a colorless world because it feels safe or comfortable. It might be the way we were raised or conditioned. It might be because fear of the unknown holds us back.

But what would happen if we one day decide that we no longer like just black and white? What if we decided the vivid full-color brilliance of our dreams is worth stepping out of our flat existence to explore?

What if we take that first step, then the next and the next toward discovering the million shades of colors waiting in our dreams and made them our reality instead? What if we embraced what we could  be, became intent on our purpose and lived life as we always imagined?

What if we let every hue of the rainbow permeate our heart and soul and really, really allowed ourselves to live life instead of just dream it?

I think I’m ready to give it a try…
