A few weeks ago, someone asked me about the cover of The Cowboy’s Last Goodbye and if it was a photo I’d taken.
I meant to share this post long before now, but can I use the excuse that things have been a little busy at our house?
Anyway, I thought you might like to see how I put this cover together.
It started with this photo I took of my niece’s very good-natured hubby, Marc. To humor his wife’s crazy aunt, he saddled his horse and rode out to check the cows just so I could snap a bunch of photos.
You probably noticed I changed the color of his shirt from black and white to blue because I used him in this shirt on another book cover. (I’ll let you figure out which one!) Also, I wanted a blue title and a blue shirt matched better.
I added in this barn photo I took a few summers ago.
Then we needed the pretty sky (a photo taken from my backyard during the summer).
And General. I have no idea about this dog, other than it was a perfect piece of clipart for the cover!
If at all possible, I try to use my own artwork and keep my covers very original, but once in a while I have to add a little something that I don’t have on hand (like a specific dog breed!).
And that’s how it came to be.
What do you think?
